A regulated power supply (RPS) is a type of electronic circuit used with fluctuating loads to maintain a constant voltage across the load while delivering a steady direct current.

Using a fixed circuit known as an RPS, unregulated alternating current is changed into constant direct current (RPS).

In this instance, a rectifier is used to change an AC power source into a DC power source. Its main function is to give a constant voltage to a device or circuit that needs to operate within a particular range of the power source. The output of the RPS is always DC, regardless of whether it is bidirectional or variable (direct current).
